FRANZ SCHUBERT'S WINTER JOURNEY
"THE MOST BEAUTIFUL SONG CYCLE IN THE WORLD!" (THOMAS MANN)

Franz Schubert became the epitome of the “lieder prince” and is considered the founder of the German art song, which reached its heyday during the Romantic era. That time, which was connected with the dream of combining all the arts: music, literature and visual arts. It was in this atmosphere that Schubert (1797-1828) wrote his largest song cycle “Winterreise”, which became one of the absolute highlights of song production in the entire history of music. The texts come from Wilhelm Müller (1794–1827), a member of the Swabian circle of poets from Dessau.

The special feature of this performance is the outstanding interpretation of the song cycle - originally written for tenor and piano - by the prominent Lithuanian mezzo-soprano Eglé Šidlauskaité, who takes on the part of the vocal soloist, and her partner at the piano, the Swiss pianist and soprano Cassandra Wyss.

On this unique musical evening we invite you to accompany the central figure of the winter journey on their way, the hiker who, after a love experience without goals and hope, moves into the winter night.....

Eglé Šidlauskaité - mezzo-soprano

The Lithuanian mezzo-soprano Eglé Šidlauskaité impresses with her intense and dramatic performances in the repertoire of Vivaldi, Wagner, Tchaikovsky, Verdi and Bel Canto. Her most recent engagements have taken her to the national operas of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, the Erfurt Cathedral Festival and tours through Germany, Austria and France with the Compagnia d’Opera Italiana di Milano. Future engagements include her debut as Octavian in Rosenkavalier and as Eboli in the revival of Don Carlos at the Lithuanian National Opera.

Cassandra Wyss - piano / soprano

The young Swiss soprano Cassandra Wyss, who lives in the Principality of Liechtenstein, is a successful opera singer herself, but originally made a great career as a pianist on international concert stages. With her astonishing abundance of great ability and talent, she succeeds in building a bridge between her career as an opera singer and as a piano soloist, which has taken her to renowned stages, including: Berlin Philharmonic, Mozart Hall of Konzerthaus Vienna, Tchaikovsky Grand Hall Moscow, Living Arts Center Toronto, Casa da Musicà Oporto, St. Petersburg Philharmonic, and much more.
